So! I am currently living at Jubilee Partners in Comer, GA … A christian intentional community for service to refugees and sustainable living. It’s a great place, and I’m very excited to be here, and I’m sure that I will be posting lots about the goings of this strange and wonderful place as the summer continues.
Goals for this summer:
• Really work on my prayer life and quiet time, particularly in the form of solitary walks
• Fully embrace communal life
• Learn how to garden, how to bake bread, and how to cook for large amounts of people!
• Enjoy my time with the refugees as much as possible
• Letter writing, letter writing, letter writing!
• Read as many of the 3800 books in the Jubilee library as possible!
A major part of life as a volunteer here at Jubilee is teaching English classes to the refugees, and I must admit that this is something I’m very nervous about. I really prayed about this a lot before coming to Jubilee because I have never felt that teaching was one of my spiritual gifts, but I am excited about this opportunity for growth. I would, however, appreciate prayers as I start my class tomorrow. I will have 6 students from Burma, all considered to be basic beginners.
My address while at Jubilee will be

… I love to get letters and promise to write back!
Last night I went with my family to see the play adaptation of CS Lewis’ “the Screwtape Letters” at the Wells Theater in Norfolk… and it was so great! The actor who portrayed Screwtape was so good, and it was also a really amazing reminder of the little distractions that we let gradually, and sneakily, lead us away from God and His light.
Moment of honesty: I have tried reading this book 3 or 4 times now, and have never gotten past page 30 or so, but after hearing to the message of this story, I feel like it’s worth another attempt … challenge accepted!
